Green Party Policies
Policies for a Green Winchester
Though the Winchester Green Party is quite new, our candidates and members have lifetimes of experience living and working in Winchester. We understand the area and experience local life and local issues daily. We also build upon strong Green Party national policies.
Our local election policies for Winchester are to:
- Improve public transport and cycling networks in and around the city, providing a noticeable reduction in overall traffic levels and pollution.
- Improve the doorstep recycling scheme to include glass and compostable waste, and getting recycling bins installed in the city centre.
- Encourage local, seasonal, organic food production.
- Increase provision of allotments.
- Support local shops and businesses to preserve the character of Winchester and promoting local diversity. Winchester does not need to be another 'clone town'.
- Provide free domestic insulation to save you money and combat climate change.
- Create safer streets by reducing urban speed limits
- Push for more places at the St. Bede's School.
- Reform the council to enable more younger people to get seats and more working people to attend council sessions.
- Support and work with Winchester's social and environmental organisations (like WinACC, Winchester Friends of the Earth and the Greening Campaign).
National Policy — Manifesto for a Sustainable Society
The Manifesto For a Sustainable Society (MfSS) contains all the policies agreed at successive Green Party conferences. These are our main detailed policies which are elucidated and illustrated from time to time in news releases, topical comment, reports etc.
The MfSS is a statement of the policies needed to fulfil the Green Vision and create a society based on ecological sustainability and social justice. It is not a programme for a single term of government, but an expression of what is necessary to achieve these long term goals.
Below are sections from the Manifesto for a Sustainable Society from the main Green Party policy site. Please follow the links that are closest to your subject of interest:
